Hundreds of Brigade Nhamedu Eritreans marched in Stockholm on Tuesday. The protest was organized by Brigade Nhamedu, an Eritrean Opposition group. Brigade Nhamedu emerged in 2022. It has been involved in scores of attacks on Eritrean gatherings. It wants to stop all pro Eritrean government gatherings.
The Tuesday’s protest was held to stop an upcoming Eritrean festival which became a scene of violence last year. The Eritrean festival in Sweden has been held at Eggeby farm on Järvafältet since the 1990s. Last August, however, violent protests erupted when Brigade Nhamedu violently disrupted the festival
The protesters on Tuesday demonstrated against the City of Stockholm’s granting of land for the Eritrean cultural festival. Around 800 people participated. Protesters submitted demands to the City of Stockholm and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking them to cancel the permission for the festival which is due to be held in August.
Eritrean Brigade Nhamedu members have been urging European countries to take actions against those members of Eritrean diaspora community who are pro Eritrean government. They accuse Eritrean government of creating divisions in diaspora, blackmailing diaspora community and raising money to war wars.
Pro Eritrean government diaspora community and Eritrean government dismiss Brigade Nhamedu as a non Eritrean group backed by Tigray People’s Liberation Front and rival intelligence agencies.
