The Chief of Sudan’s RSF Warns Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki

The chief of Sudan’s RSF has warned Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Hamdan Dagalo have been fighting the Sudanese military led by General Abdul Fattah al Burhan since 2023. RSF chief, in a public speech on Monday, accused Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.

“Isaias Afwerki has been involved in war by interfering in Sudan’s internal affairs and caused a lot of damage. We will not take this issue lightly. We will use all our strength and take action on Eritrea, ” Hamdan Dagalo said.

Eritrea has been training Sudanese fighters who are fighting on the side of General Al Burhan. The training camps are located on Eritrea side of Eritrea Sudan border. The Sudanese armed groups being trained are from Eastern and Western Sudan. Sudan Liberation Movement, under the leadership of Minni Arko Minnawi, and the Popular Front for Liberation and Justice in Eastern Sudan, led by Al-Amin Daoud, are among the Sudanese groups whose fighters are being trained by Eritrean military.

Last month Eritrean government deployed its naval forces in Port Sudan. The Eritrean navy was deployed to fight criminal networks operating in Sudanese territorial waters.

RSF conducted two warning strikes last month. It conducted a drone strike on Kassala airport in Eastern Sudan. The airport is located around 30 km away from Eritrean border. Secondly RSF conducted multiple drone strikes in Port Sudan near Eritrean naval forces. Reportedly after these strikes, Eritrea withdrew its navy from Port Sudan.

Rapid Support Forces have been suffering territorial losses at the hands of Sudanese military in recent months. RSF are planning to launch a major counter offensive to retake lost territories. It seems that before the start of a major military offensive, the RSF warned Eritrea and Egypt against supporting Al Burhan.
