Eritrean government Ethiopian airline

Eritrean government has written a letter to the Ethiopian government, demanding payment of long standing dues. Eritrea Ethiopia relations have significantly deteriorated in recent months. In July, Eritrea banned Ethiopian airline from operating in Eritrea.

Eritrean Civil aviation Authority has written a letter to the Ethiopian Airline, asking the airline to pay dues pending since 1997/1998. The letter addressed to the Ethiopian airlines contains details of outstanding dues amounting to around $3.7 million. The Eritrean government has sued the Ethiopian airline at a court in Asmara for damages allegedly suffered by Eritrean passengers in 1997/1998 in terms of missing and damaged luggage.

Interestingly, according to the Ethiopian airline, Eritrean government owes to the Ethiopian airline. Last month, when the Ethiopian airline announced formal suspension of flights to Asmara, it said that Eritrean government owed to the Ethiopian airline and the matter will be solved by the two governments.
