An Eritrean man was killed and several were injured in a deadly clash on Monday. The incident happened in Tel Aviv Israel.
Tel Aviv witnessed heavy fighting between Eritrean groups last year too. In September 2023, more than 100 Eritreans and police officers were injured after opposition Brigade Nhamedu and pro Eritrean government groups fought on the streets on Tel Aviv.
Earlier this month, an Eritrean refugee, from opposition Brigade Nhamedu, was stabbed to death in Hatikvah Tel Aviv. Monday’s fight seems to be linked to the death of Brigade Nhamedu member on May 7.
In Monday’s clashes, one person was killed in the Hatikva neighborhood in Tel Aviv. At least five more people were wounded in the incident, with three being seriously hurt, said the Magen David Adom ambulance service.
Over 20 arrests have been made. The police stated: “Following a report of a fight and riots, which included the throwing of stones, the use of clubs and spikes on Hagana Street by a number of suspects of Eritrean origin, large forces of police and security forces were rushed to the scene, and began to disperse the rioters.”
Clashes between Eritrean opposition groups (especially Brigade Nhamedu) and pro Eritrean government groups have been ongoing for more than year. Eritreans celebrated Independence Day on Friday. This is second violent incident involving Eritrean community since Friday. On Saturday, dozens of Eritreans were injured in a similar clash in Sheffield UK.
