Eritrean President today departed for Seoul South Korea. He is accompanied by the the Foreign Minister Osman Saleh.
South Korea is hosting 2-day South Korea-Africa summit from the 4th of June. Delegations from African countries and related international organizations, key figures from Korean and international communities, including heads of state, heads of organizations, and President of the African Development Bank Group are expected to attend the summit.
For the first time since its founding, South Korea is inviting the leaders of African nations. The 2024 Korea-Africa Summit is coming in the wake of the 7th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Conference, in September 2023, a key event held to cement Korea’s longstanding support for developing the African continent. At the 7th KOAFEC, the African Development Bank and the Government of Korea signed two agreements, valued at $28.6 million, to boost Africa’s development agenda.
South Korea is one of world’s tech giants. Samsung and other big companies are based in South Korea. But the country has to rely on imported raw materials. Critical minerals, from Cobalt to Platinum, are found abundantly in Africa. Being a leading semi conductor and chip producer, South Korea wants to strengthen ties with African countries to ensure smooth import of critical minerals from Africa.
Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki attended Russia-Africa summit too held last year. Earlier this year he attended Italy-Africa summit. He is vocal proponent of the establishment of new world order. He accuses US and western countries of colonizing Africa.
