General-Tsadkan

Lieutenat General (r) Tsadkan Gebretensai, Tigray’s leading military officer, has rejected rumors being spread about an alleged plan to wage war on Eritrea.

The Ethiopian military General was interviewed this week. The interview was published last night. General Tsadkan has recently been seen with Getachew Reda, Tigray Interim President, at public discussion forums. He is supporting the Tigray president in the ongoing dispute between two TPLF groups.

General Tsadkan Gebretensai categorically rejected rumors that he was conspiring with the Ethiopian federal government to wage war on Eritrea to seize Aseb port. He said Tigray and Eritrea should coexist peacefully. But he ruled out the possibility of formation of a strategic alliance between Tigray and Eritrea considering Eritrean government’s role in the war on Tigray.

He criticized TPLF for blurring the lines between party and government. He urged separation of politics and government in Tigray, accusing TPLF of using state resources for its political activities.

It is said that during 1998 Ethiopia Eritrea war, when General Tsadkan was leading the Ethiopian military, he wanted the Ethiopian forces to march towards the Aseb port of Eritrea but the Ethiopian President and TPLF chief Meles Zenawi disagreed with Tsadkan and he sidelined Tsadkan.

Some TPLF supporters say that Tsadkan is supporting Getachew Reda TPLF wing to take revenge on TPLF for his past grievance against TPLF leadership when he was sidelined by Meles Zenawi. Tsadkan, in last night’s interview, said that he was not taking any revenge and he had nothing to do with TPLF’s internal matters as he is not a member of TPLF.
