Soccer teams of Eritrea and Ethiopia will play a football match tomorrow. Fans of both teams are anxiously waiting for this face-off. The match between Ethiopia and Eritrea is scheduled to be held on the 25th of October 2024, and it will take place at the Juba Stadium, which is located in South Sudan. Soccer teams from the two countries are playing qualifiers for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championships (CHAN) 2025.
Eleven nations in the CECAFA Zone will battle in the qualifiers for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.
In the draw conducted last week by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo, Eritrea have been drawn to face Ethiopia in the first round, while Burundi was due to take on Somalia but reportedly Somalia was withdrawn from the competition.
Eritrea had taken several years without participating in CHAN qualifiers. The winner between Ethiopia and Eritrea will take on the winner between Sudan and Tanzania in the second round, while the winner between South Sudan and Kenya will battle the winner between Djibouti and Rwanda in the final phase of the qualifiers.
The relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia are very tense these days. Eritrea has banned Ethiopian airline from operating in Eritrea. The countries normalized relations in 2018 after two decades of hostilities, but the bilateral relations deteriorated in recent months.
