Somalia has withdrawn from African Nations Championship Soccer Tournament. The soccer team of Somalia withdrew due to various challenges. These challenges included financial constraints and logistical issues. Somalia has been faced with political, security and economic challenges. Somalia was due to face Burundi in its first qualifier in African Nations Championship this week.
Somalia’s football federation cannot afford the expense of travelling as this African Nations Championship will be played in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. It cannot afford the expense of the accommodation of soccer players.
Secondly, the logistical issues, Somalia’s football federation cannot afford the expense of training camps securing venues, and ensuring safe transportation for players and officials are complicated by ongoing instability, leading to increased logistical burdens and expenses.
Lastly, Somalia’s government gives fund to the Football Federation of Somalia. The funds are not sufficient. The FIFA and The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also provides funding and resources to member associations for training, competitions, and development initiatives.
