OLA Accuses Ethiopian Govt of Forming Fake Opposition Party

Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) has accused the Ethiopian government of forming a fake opposition party. It warned people in Oromia to be carful.

OLA, in a statement issued on weekend, said that the Ethiopian regime is secretly forming a political party which will soon launch itself as an opposition party. Interestingly Ethiopia is almost year away from the next General Election. Ethiopian opposition parties have been complaining of denial of political space to carry out political activities in the country.

Earlier OLA, the armed group operating in the Oromia region of Ethiopia for years, warned Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) against joining negotiation with the government, saying that it would strengthen ruling Prosperity Party’s narratives.

In the new statement, OLA further accused Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government of backing Fano fighters in Wellega Oromia. Last week, several residents in Horo Guduru Wellega were killed in an attack by local Amhara Fano militia. The government is backing the formation of Amhara Identity Restoration Committee in Wellega to drive a wedge between Oromo and Amhara communities, the OLA said.

OLA denied involvement in recent kidnapping for ransom incidents in North Shewa Oromia, accusing the criminal elements of committing these crimes.
