Fano commander Zenabu has been seen having public discussions in the Gojjam zone of the Amhara region. Zenabu met with dozens of elders in Washra Gojjam this week. The discussions focused on the issues facing by local community.
Amhara regional government and Ethiopian federal government claim that 98% of the Amhara region is under government control. Fano group claim to be in control of over 60% of the Amhara region. The armed conflict between Fano and government began in mid 2023 when Fano militias launched an armed movement in the Amhara region against government’s attempt to disarm and dismantle Fano.
Fano backed sources have released pictures of commander Zenabu meeting with the local elders. Zenabu is deputy commander of Gojjam Fano. He oversees operational side of Gojjam Fano.
The meetings in Washra indicate that Fano group are in control of large territories in the region where they have set up administrative structures.
No meaningful negotiations have been held between Fano and government so far. Last week, Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission held week long discussions in Bahir Dar, Amhara regional capital. The forum was attended by thousands of pro government residents of the region. However Fano groups boycotted the dialogue.
