Open Distribution of Jawar Mohammed’s Book Banned in Ethiopia

Open distribution of Jawar Mohammed’s book has been banned in Ethiopia. It was disclosed by Jawar himself on Sunday.

Jawar is one the of most prominent opposition politicians in Ethiopia. He seems to be living in self exile. He launched his new book titled “Hin Gaabbu” last week in Nuremberg Germany. Earlier he tried to launch the book in Nairobi Kenya but the program had to be cancelled. Reportedly Ethiopian government talked to Kenyan authorities, which led to the cancellation of book launch ceremony in Kenya.

Jawar is a vocal opposition politician of Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) which is one of the main opposition political parties in Ethiopia.

Through a social media post last night, Jawar Mohammed alleged that open distribution of his book had been banned in Ethiopia. He announced to return royalties to the wholesale distributors in Ethiopia. He urged people to buy hard copies of the book in Ethiopia to help distributors.

The Oromo politician has recently been launching a series of fiery attacks on the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and ruling Prosperity Party. Experts see his growing criticism of PM Abiy Ahmed as start of political campaign for the next general election which is due to be held in 2026.

In recent interviews, Jawar accused Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of fueling conflicts, destroying economy and making Oromo ethnic group vulnerable.
