Ethiopian military today announced that Fano fighters surrendered to military command post in Gondar.
Fano militias have been fighting in Amhara region since last year. Fano groups say that they are fighting for Amhara people. They accuse the government of Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed of massacring Amhara people. The government, on the other hand, says that Fano militias are backed by foreign countries and they want to ruin the peace of Ethiopia.
Fano basically want to remove PM Abiy’s government and military has been conducting operations against Fano across Amhara. Military today announced through social media that Fano fighters surrendered.
The Ethiopian National Defense Force, on its social media page, published a picture showing four fighters who had surrendered the ENDF command post. They surrendered in North Gondar zone Debark city. Military said that Fano fighters handed over their weapons too. Fano groups have not given any statement about military’s claims.
According to the news announced by military through social media, Gebru Gerjelew, a Fano commander, is one of the fighters who surrendered in Debark city.
