Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Russia to attend BRICS Summit. The two day summit is being held in Kazan Russia.
The number of BRICS members has grown to 10. Brazil, Russia, India and China formed this international organization in 2009. Over 30 countries have applied to be members.
The BRICS was formed to establish an alterative new world order to counter western and American dominance. Around 20 world leaders are expected to attend this summit. Russia, through hosting world leaders, wants to prove that the attempts by adversaries to isolate Russia have failed.
Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Indian PM Narendra Modi, Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al Sisi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, United Arab Emirates’s ruler Mohammed Bin Zaid Al Nayhan and several other world leaders are expected to attend this summit.
The BRICS members are working on establishing an alterative global financial system to break the hegemony of US dollar. BRICS members are starting trade in their own currencies.
Interestingly, some BRICS countries are in dispute. Indian vs China, Egypt vs Ethiopia and Iran vs Saudi Arabia rivalries are obstacles to formation of a common stand on how to establish an alterative world order.
