Tigray Interim Government today banned all meetings. The interim administration of the region announced that no meetings in the government offices of the Tigray region will be held without prior permission of the interim administration.
A letter has been circulated in this regard. The letter sent by the interim administration president, Getachew Reda, to all the lower structures of the region bans all meetings.
The letter states that other public and governmental plans such as cholera prevention, return of displaced persons to their homes and the territorial unity of the region, closing of the 2024 budget and preparation of the 2025 budget are the interim administration’s work instructions. The temporary administration warned that handling other than the above-mentioned plans would hinder the work of the interim administration.
The ban has been imposed in the backdrop of existing tensions between Tigray interim government and Tigray People’s Liberation Front group led by chairman Debretsion Gebremichael. The Debretsion group has expelled Getachew Reda, the Tigray interim regional president and his loyalists from the party. Some newly elected Debretions wing TPLF officials are working in Tigray interim government. Getachew Reda led interim administration fears that TPLF Debretsion wing will try to destabilize regional government through its members who are part of the government.
