71 people including a groom lost their lives in a deadly traffic accident on Sunday. According to Regional Police, 71 people died after an Isuzu truck carrying 74 people fell off a bridge and plunged into the river in the area known as Galana River in the Bona Zura Woreda of the Eastern Sidama Zone of the Sidama National Regional State of Ethiopia.
Sidama Regional Police Commissioner Shimelis Thomas shared details of victims. A total of 71 people, 68 men and 3 women, have been confirmed dead, while 4 were seriously injured.
The bus, which left Miride Rural Kebele, Bona Woreda around 11 am, was on its way to the bride’s house, carrying more than 70 male passengers including the groom from a neighboring Kebele called Warancha when it fell off the bridge. The groom was travelling to bride’s house to pick her up as part of the wedding ceremony.
