Oromo Liberation Army Fighters Disrupt Ethiopia Djibouti Rail Service

Oromo Liberation Army Fighters today claimed to have disrupted vital rail link and highway between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) today issued a statement, sharing details of its offensive operations against the Ethiopian security forces in different parts of the Oromia region. OLA, an armed group based in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, has been fighting the Ethiopian security forces for years.

“Continued engagements in Fantaallee District have disrupted regime movements; unidentified number of regime soldiers neutralized, and weapons seized as usual. The Ethiopia-Djibouti railway and highway remain subject to sporadic suspension due to ongoing clashes. The regime has resorted to deploying reinforcements via helicopters to Fantallee due to intensity of the situation,” said OLA in a statement.

Hundreds of OLA fighters have been laying down arms in recent weeks. Sanyi Negasa, Shurubbe and some other major OLA commanders recently signed a peace deal with the Oromia regional government. Ethiopian security officials claims that the Oromia based armed group is dying its last breath. However main OLA group, led by Kumsa Dirriba Jal Marroo, claims that OLA’s capabilities are intact.

Fighting has been intensifying between OLA and government forces recently. OLA claims to have launched an offensive operation called “Cichoomina Kaayyoo” against the government.

Ethiopia Djibouti highway and railway service are vital to the Ethiopian economy. Landlocked Ethiopia uses Djibouti’s ports for over 90% of its imports and exports.
