Tigray Interim President Getachew Reda, late on Monday, suspended three senior military Generals.
The President office released 3 letters, addressed from the President to the Generals. The suspended Generals are:
- Major General Yohannes Wolde Giorgis (John Medid)
- Major General Masho Beyene
- Brigadier General Migbe Haile
The President accused the 3 Generals of being involved in activities which pose a threat to peace and stability in Tigray. The Generals have been suspended indefinitely until a settlement is reached.
Tigray President has been at odds with senior Tigray military commanders for almost a month. Last month, military called for restructuring of Tigray Interim Administration and it announced its support for TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael group which is opposed to President Getachew Reda’s TPLF group.
On Tuesday morning, TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael group and Tigray Peace and Security Bureau issued statements, rejecting the orders passed by President Getachew Reda to suspend the 3 Generals. The two accused President Getachew Reda of overstepping his mandate. Tigray Peace and Security Bureau is led by General Fisseha Manjus, a representative of Tigray military.
