TPLF Chairman Tigray

TPLF Chairman has proposed General Tadesse Werede’s name to head the Tigray Interim Administration, according to informed sources.

TPLF Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael and Deputy Chairman Ammanuel Assefa held meetings with Federal Government officials this week in Addis Ababa. The chairman reportedly proposed the name of General Tadesse Werede, head of Tigray Security Forces, to replace Getachew Reda, Tigray Interim President.

TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael Group is demanding the removal of Getachew Reda Tigray President. Getachew Reda is a senior TPLF leader. Over two months ago, TPLF Debretsion group expelled Getachew Reda and his supporters from the party and demanded his removal from Tigray Interim Government.

Getachew Reda, backed by the Federal Government, has refused to step down, vowing to steer the region towards election.

This week’s meeting between TPLF Debretsion and Federal Government is the second engagement between the two sides in less than a month. The agenda was dominated by one point about TPLF’s demand for removal of Getachew Reda.

No statements have been issued by TPLF or Federal Government about his week’s meetings. It seems that Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) Debretsion Group wants General Tadesse Werede to head the Tigray interim setup until the holding of regional election.
