Keria Ibrahim Joins Solidarity Party of Getachew Reda

Keria Ibrahim has joined newly formed Solidarity Party. The party is led by Getahew Reda, State Minister and Advisor to Prime Minister on East Africa Affairs.

Both Keria Ibrahim and Getachew Reda were expelled from Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Keria,who served as Speaker of House of Federation (2018-2020), was removed from TPLF in February 2024. TPLF central committee removed her from the party for not participating in the war. During Tigray war (November 2020-November 2022), Keria Ibrahim remained based in Addis Ababa where during a court trial she refused to testify against her TPLF colleagues like Sebhat Nega and others.

Getachew Reda was removed from TPLF last year while he was serving as Tigray President. He was accused of working to implement the agenda of federal government against Tigray and TPLF interests. In March this year, he was removed from his position as Tigray President. Since then he has been based in Addis Ababa. Tigray Democratic Solidarity, led by TPLF deserters, was formed last week. The party is starting its membership campaign today.

On Sunday, Keria Ibrahim accused TPLF of destroying Tigray and people of Tigray. She condemned TPLF for forming an alliance with Eritrea. She said that TPLF is an existential threat to Tigrayans.
