Sudan army today claimed it has detained 6 Ethiopian female fighters. The women were allegedly taken into custody in Gedaref state of Sudan, which shares border with Ethiopia.
The Sudan army claimed the six Ethiopian women are snipers; They underwent military training and they were fighting on the side of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Ethiopia did not officially respond to allegations by Sudanese military so far.
Both Sudanese warring parties, military and RSF, have been accusing each other of employing foreign mercenaries. In April, Rapid Support Forces issued a statement and accused Ethiopia’s Tigray People’s Liberation Front fighters of supporting the Sudanese army against RSF. TPLF back then dismissed RSF statement.
Yasir Al Ata, a senior officer of Sudan defense forces, claimed last year that RSF had hired foreign mercenaries from Ethiopia, Chad, Libya, Niger, Central African Republic.
Interestingly this week a video emerged showing one RSF fighter waving Ethiopian flag when RSF took control of Al Fula city in West Kordofan. Watch the video below:
Ethiopian government says that it has no involvement in Sudan civil war. But keeping in view the close ties between the Ethiopian PM and UAE ruler Mohammed Bin Zaid, some experts say that Ethiopia, like UAE, supports RSF.
