Tigray Forces on Tuesday stopped people from protesting in south eastern Tigray. Since Monday, preparations were ongoing for demonstrations in Hintalo Wajerat woreda of south eastern Tigray.
In southern and southeastern Tigray, several public demonstrations have been held in the last one week. The protests have been led by anti TPLF elements which are leading southern Tigray government. The protesters lashed out at TPLF and Tigray military commanders for removing former President Getachew Reda and for planning to dissolve pro Getachew Reda local governments. Tigray People’s Liberation Front leaders in recent statements hinted at a plan to dissolve anti TPLF government in southern Tigray.
Tuesday’s protests were due to be held in Adi Godoom and Hintato towns of Hintalo Wajerat woreda in south eastern Tigray. But security forces started patrolling the streets of Adi Godoom on Tuesday morning and people were not allowed to come out to protest. In Hintalo, a few dozen people protested in the outskirts of the town.
Opposition political parties in Tigray accuse senior Tigray military officers of supporting TPLF. It seems that, in coming days, TPLF and Tigray military will make a move to dismantle zonal and local governments in southern Tigray.
