Fano Amhara

Two Fano Amhara militia fighters, killed in Addis Ababa the Ethiopian capital in April, were buried this week in Amhara region. The burial ceremonies were held amid tight security and protest by the families of the deceased.

Nausenahi Andarge and Abenezer Gashau were killed on April 12 in Addis Ababa in a shootout with Addis Ababa police. Since then, their families have been asking the authorities to hand over the dead bodies. The families met with federal and Addis Ababa police but they could not receive the dead bodies.

Nausenai was buried in Gondar city on Monday. But the family was not shown his dead body. The family members and relatives came with pictures and placards to attend the ceremony. But they were not allowed to take photographs and placard in the ceremony. Nausenai’s family members protested. Videos of their protest are being shared in social media.

The funeral of Ebenezer Gashau was also held in the same manner. The family was not shown his dead body.

Since last year, Amhara Fano fighters have been fighting Ethiopian security forces in the Amhara region. Hundreds of fighters, security officials and civilians have been killed in this conflict so far.
