Experts are warning about the possibility of a deadly earthquake in Ethiopia. In a series of several, another strong earthquake struck Ethiopia last night at 9:52 PM. Measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, it occurred 56 kilometers from Abomsa. The tremors were felt strongly in Addis Ababa, Dessie, Kombolcha, Debre Berhan, Burayu, Adama etc.
Many people living in Addis Ababa said this earthquake was different from the ones which occurred before and many people said that they saw objects falling. People also mentioned that the duration of this earthquake was more then the usual.
For around two weeks, earthquakes have been hitting Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara and Oromia regions of Ethiopia. The magnitude of the earthquakes is gradually rising. Last night’s 5.8 was the highest recorded in Ethiopia in decades.
According to some experts, the magnitude of earthquakes in Ethiopia could further rise and reach between 6 and 7. They are warning people to be alert. Most of the skyscrapers in Addis Ababa are not earthquake proof. A near 7 magnitude earthquake could be devastating.
80,000 people have been affected by the recent earthquakes, according to Ethiopian Communication Ministry. Most of the people displaced because of these earthquakes are from the Afar region of Ethiopia.
