Ethiopia denies deporting Eritreans. Ethiopian Refugee and Returnee Service recently dismissed reports by human rights organizations that Eritrean refugees are being deported from Ethiopia.
There are over 100,000 Eritrean migrants in Ethiopia. Thousands of Eritreans illegally enter Ethiopia every year. Eritrean migrants transit through Ethiopia and Libya to reach Middle East and Europe.
The deportation of Eritreans from Ethiopia is being linked to rising tension between the two countries. Last year, Eritrea banned Ethiopian airline from operating in Eritrea. Ethiopia, on the other hand, is publicly backing anti Eritrean government opposition groups which are organizing themselves on Ethiopian soil.
