Eritrean President

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki met with President Yoon Suk Yoel of the Republic of Korea on Wednesday. The meeting was held at the State House in Seoul. Eritrean President arrived in South Korea on Saturday. He is is visiting South Korea to visit first ever South Korea-Africa summit.

During the meeting, President Yoel congratulated President Isaias on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries and expressed South Korea’s readiness to further strengthen relations and cooperation with Eritrea.

President Isaias expressed his appreciation to the people and Government of South Korea for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He also noted that the various summits recently convened by several partners attest to Africa’s growing importance and role in the newly emerging global order.

South Korea is keen to strengthen ties with African countries as its tech industry relies on imported raw materials. African countries are rich in critical minerals which South Korea tech giants are badly in need of.

Before Africa-South Korea summit, US-Africa, Russia-Africa, Italy-Africa and Saudi Arabia-Africa summits were held in recent months.

48 African countries attended the summit in Seoul Korea including Prime Ministers and Presidents from Eritrea, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia etc.

South Korea signed financing agreements with Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and other African countries during the two-day summit.
