Eritrea today criticized Tigray’s General Tsadkan Gebretensae. General Tsadkan is former Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force. He is now serving as Deputy President in Tigray’s Interim Administration.
Eritrean Ministry of Information today issued a statement. It accused General Taskan Gebretenase of peddling “abject lies”.
“Disconcerting to see certain/former TPLF elements (Gen. Tsadkan et al) resorting to propagation of abject lies for ulterior objectives. The latest in these series of mendacious news reports is the novel and baseless accusation/insinuation that gold from mining plants in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia is being smuggled illegally through Eritrea,” the Eritrean Ministry of Information said.
General Tsadkan and Tigray President Getachew Reda recently said that huge quantities of gold were being smuggled from Tigray through Eritrea to Dubai.
General Tsakdan around 2 months ago denied reports that he was working to wage war on Eritrea. TPLF Debretsion group has been accusing General Tsadkan and President Getachew Reda of colluding with the federal government of Ethiopia to wage war on Eritrea.
It is said that during the Ethiopia Eritrea 1998-2000 war, General Tsadkan Gebretensae, who was leading the Ethiopian forces, wanted Ethiopian military to march towards Eritrean port Assab but Prime Minister Meles Zenawi disagreed with him.
Today’s statement by the Eritrean Ministry of Information also addressed allegation leveled by Tigray government that Eritrean military is in occupation of Tigray’s territories.
“False accusations of Eritrean army presence in Tigray Region continues to be recycled ad nauseam by all those who reject – to this day – the EEBC Arbitral Award of 2002,” the Ministry said.
