Police stormed Mekelle university on Monday, injuring several students. The police was called to intervene after students protested about food menu.
In a statement issued by the Mekelle university today, it said that food menu for students had been approved by the Ministry of Education and it applies to all universities in Ethiopia. The university accused students of destroying the infrastructure of the university and harming the cafeteria and security staff. It urged students to express their grievances in a peaceful way.
Police were called to intervene on Monday by university authorities after students protested about the food menu. Large number of security officials stormed the cafeteria and dormitories. At least five students were injured in the use of force by police against students.
Students claim that their protest was peaceful but police resorted to violence to attack and injure students, including female students.
