Eritrea Responds to Ethiopian Military Chief’s Accusations

Eritrea, on Saturday, responded to accusations recently levelled by the Ethiopian military chief.
General Birhanu Jula, the Ethiopian military chief, this week said that Ethiopia had tried to engage Eritrea to solve bilateral issues and use sea together, but the Ethiopian efforts remained unsuccessful. However he reiterated the Ethiopian government position that landlocked Ethiopia will surely gain sea access.
Eritrean Ministry of Information, on Saturday, responded by saying,” Repetition ad nauseam of their toxic/elusive agenda aside, the stale arguments that PP officials and trolls are advancing these days increasingly defy simple logic, common sense, as well as elementary (101) principles and norms of international law and diplomacy. In this respect, the latest version in town is that they became “disillusioned” in the rapprochement between the two countries when they realized that Eritrea never contemplated, and was not indeed prepared, to partially mortgage or auction its inalienable sovereignty over its maritime assets.”
Ethiopia and Eritrea normalized relations in 2018 after years of no diplomatic ties. They jointly fight war in Tigray against Tigray forces from November 2020 to November 2022. However their bilateral relations deteriorated at the end of 2023 when landlocked Ethiopia made a claim to sea access through Eritrea. Since then Eritrean President and Ethiopian Prime Minister have not been on speaking terms and bilateral relations have been extremely tense with frequent wars of words erupting between the two sides.
