Eritrean Opposition Group Brigade Nhamedu leader John Black has been sentenced to 4 years in prison. Yohannes Abreha, popularly known as John Black, is one of main leaders of the Eritrean diaspora based opposition group.
Brigade Nhamedu emerged over a year ago. Quickly it came under spotlight for its violent attacks on pro Eritrean government programs in Europe, North America and Asia.
Brigade Nhamedu leader John Black has been sentenced for his role in Feb 17 riots in the Hague. In February this year, dozens of Eritreans and police officials were injured in a collision between Brigade Nhamedu and Pro Eritrean Government community; several vehicles were set on fire.
According to the judge at a Hague court, Johannes Abreha, who calls himself ‘John Black’, called for violence in videos and also took part in the riots. Two other rioters were also sentenced to 7-month prison terms.
According to the judge, it has been irrefutably proven that the trio was guilty of public violence. ‘That violence was of an unprecedented intensity. Even experienced police officers and riot police had, according to themselves, never experienced violence like this before, said the Judge.
The court is expected to give a verdict about 750,000 euro damages too as several vehicles were set on fire and police officials filed cases for damages.
