Tigray President Getachew Reda today presided over a meeting of his cabinet. The meeting was held in the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Tigray President Getachew Reda led TPLF wing and Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael led other TPLF faction.
Tigray communication affairs bureau issued a statement after the conclusion of the meeting. It seems that the meeting was held by the President to reassure his support base that his government is intact and functioning. The dispute in Tigray is within TPLF, it is not between Tigray interim government and TPLF, the statement said.
The Tigray Interim Regional Government (TIRA), through today’s statement, warned TPLF Debretsion wing supporters against disrupting government organized programs, and violating instructions passed by the TIRA. This week, TPLF Debretsion wing supporters disrupted a meeting which was held by Tigray President Getachew Reda in Shire city.
At the end of the statement, TIRA implies that Tigray’s security forces are working under the command of Tigray President and his cabinet and the security forces will take action on those who could be a threat to peace and stability in Tigray.
The role of Tigray security force (TSF), led by General Tadesse Werede, is crucial in existing political turmoil. Tadesee Werede, in a statement earlier this month, said that his force was neutral. But it seems that the Tigray interim government of President Getachew Reda wants TSF to take action on TPLF Debretsion Wing supporters.
