TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael Group Issues 17 Point Statement

TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael group today issued a 17-point statement asking therein Tigray interim government to step down. The party, on Saturday, held a meeting in Mekelle attended by over 1000 party leaders.

TPLF, in today’s statement, announced that it won’t tolerate dissolution of district councils and establishment of advisory council. Tigray interim government has been working to dissolve district councils and establish advisory council on regional level to work in place of regional assembly.

The party criticized ongoing DDR ( Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration) of Tigray fighters saying that hasty DDR without restoration of Tigray’s borders is against Tigray’s interests. It severely criticized Getachew Reda led Tigray Interim Administration (TIRA) calling it “enemies’ agent”.

The party backed the statement issued by Tigray military on Thursday. The military, in the statement, called for restructuring of Tigray interim government. Since then TPLF Getachew Reda group, which is in control of Tigray interim administration (TIRA), has been protesting, vowing to fight attempts to dismantle TIRA.

Thursday’s statement by military led to escalation of tensions between Getachew Reda Interim President group on one side and TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael and military on the other side. Protests have been conducted by both TPLF groups in major cities of Tigray region in the last 5 days. The political stalemate is continuing.
