Tigray interim president, Getachew Reda, has rejected new decisions made by the head of security, General Tadesse Werede.
General Tadesse Werede, on Monday, imposed ban on public political gatherings and opposed new appointments or dismissals of officials by the Tigray interim government. General Tadesse Werede, head of regional security and working as deputy president, took the decisions to de escalate political tension between rival TPLF factions led by president Getachew Reda and TPLF chief Debretsion Gebremichael.
However Tigray Interim President, in an interview, rejected the decisions made by the head of regional security. He said Tigray security force is not a third party; it is part of Tigray interim government; security forces can submit proposals to the Tigray government but cannot make and implement decisions unilaterally.
Tigray People’s Liberation Front faction, led by chairman Debretsion Gebremichael, has not responded to General Werede’s press talk so far. But the General’s announcement is being seen as pro TPLF Debretsion and anti Getachew Reda group.
Tigray president has been holding public discussions with his supporters across Tigray this month. He visited Maychew, Mehnoi, Abiy Adi, Adigrat and other cities. It remains to be seen if he will continue his public mobilization campaign or not.
