Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed on Tuesday submitted a peace proposal to end the deadly civil war in Sudan. The Prime Minister met with Abdul Fattah al Burhan, the Sudanese military chief, in Port Sudan.
PM Abiy Ahmed on his arrival in Port Sudan was warmly welcomed by General Burhan, de facto leader of the country. Al Burhan drove him from airport to military headquarters. After staying for a few hours, PM Abiy Ahmed returned. General Al Burhan saw him off.
Reportedly the Ethiopian Prime Minister submitted a peace proposal to the General. The deadly war in Sudan between military led by General Al Burhan and Rapid Support Forces led by Hamdan Dagalo broke out more than a year ago. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced. According to international humanitarian organizations, Sudan is seeing the worst humanitarian disaster in the world.
The Prime Minister of Ethiopia proposed a meeting between General Al Burhan and Hamdan Dagalo under the auspices of Yoweri Museveni, the Ugandan President. African Union recently asked the Ugandan President to bring the Sudanese warring Generals to the table.
Reportedly General Abdul Fattah al Burhan, the Sudanese military chief and head of Sovereignty Council, agreed to consider the proposal.
No official statement has been announced by the Ethiopian and Sudanese governments about the peace proposal.
Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed is on good terms with UAE ruler Muhammad bin Zaid. Sudan military accuses UAE of supporting RSF, which UAE denies.
It seems that at the request of the UAE and RSF, Ethiopian Prime Minister visited Sudan and tried to broker a deal between the warring parties.
