A major commander of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) has split with the main group led by Kumsa Dirriba, popularly known as Jal Marroo, Sanyi Negasa has announced that he has separated himself from Jal Marroo led OLA.
“We are ready to resolve the conflict in Oromia peacefully; we have separated ourselves from the Oromo Liberation Army led by Jal Mero (Kumsa Driba),” Senei Negasa said.
Senei Negasa has been leading OLA’s central front. He is one of the well educated OLA commanders. He announced his divorce with OLA giving telephonic interview to a journalist. He accused Kumsa Dirribia of being a dictator who is running OLA without any institutional rules and regulations. Interestingly while he showed interest in holding dialogue with government, he further said that his fighters will elect new commander in chief.
Will he start negotiations with the Ethiopian government or will he form a splinter group, backed by the group, to fight OLA Jal Marro group?
Reportedly, differenced emerged between Sanyi Negasa and Kumsa Dirriba after talks were held in Tanzania between OLA and govt his year. OLA sources claim that Maroo intercepted Senei’s contacts with the government officials and military commanders and that is why Maro fired him months ago and appointed Jal Abdi in his place. Reportedly, Senei Negasa has been seen with Ethiopian military officers recently.
Interestingly, Ethiopian armed and political groups are faced with internal divisions. In Tigray, two TPLF wings are accusing each other. In Amhara, some Fano commanders have been involved in attacks on each other.
