Ethiopia: TPLF Calls for International Intervention in Tigray

Ethiopia: TPLF has written another letter to diplomatic missions and international partners, urging them to intervene. TPLF is involved in a stand off with the Ethiopian federal government.

The letter was written on June 5, 2025. The letter outlines urgent diplomatic priorities, critical concerns, and evolving dynamics that require immediate and sustained international attention. It accuses the Federal government of:

1. Lack of Readiness to Initiate Political Dialogue:

2. The Unacceptable and Deliberate Delay in the Return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs):

3. Delay of return of Constitutionally Recognized Territories:

4. Imposing a de facto economic blockade on Tigray, obstructing the delivery of essential goods under the pretext of unsubstantiated allegations. For over a week, all commercial and humanitarian supply routes into Tigray were blocked.

5. A sustained and hostile campaign of misinformation and disinformation targeting Tigray has become a hallmark of the Federal Government’s media and political strategy

6. Organizing State-Sponsored Organization of Militias and Armed Groups Against Tigray:

The TPLF reiterated its continued commitment to Peace and the Pretoria Agreement. It asked international community to intervene in order to resolve tensions between TPLF and Federal Government.

Relations between TPLF and Federal Government of Ethiopia have been deteriorating since November 2022 after the signing of Pretoria Peace Deal. The bilateral tensions reached new heights at the end of 2023 when the Ethiopian Prime Minister claimed access to sea (through Eritrea).
