At least 2 Eritrean migrants have been killed and several injured in the resumption of communal clashes in Eritrean diaspora community in Israel.
The clash between Eritrean pro govt and opposition groups erupted on Saturday in Tel Aviv. The two groups hurled stones at each other and used sticks to attack each other.
Before the arrival of local police around 10 people had been injured. Two died while 7 were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Since September last year, rival Eritrean migrant groups have been involved in deadly incidents of violence. Around 10 Eritreans have been killed so in Tel Aviv since September.
The intra Eritrean community clashes are the result of a confrontation between the diaspora community which supports the Eritrean government and opposition groups which call for democratic change in Eritrea where one man and one party has been in power without elections for the last 3 decades.
Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir on Saturday said that he would talk to Prime Minister Natenyau for deportation of Eritreans involved in violence. Last year after violence in September which left over 100 injured, Israeli prosecutors initiated legal action against some Eritreans to deport them. But the breakout of Israel-Hamas war delayed the process of deportation.
