Eritrea today reacted to a letter written by the Ethiopian govt. The letter accuses Eritrea of being in occupation of Ethiopian territories.

Eritrean Ministry of Information today issued a statement in this regard. It reacted to Ethiopian government’s accusations that Eritrea is supplying weapons to Ethiopian opposition groups to topple the Ethiopian government. The Ethiopian government leveled these allegations in a letter written to UN Secretary General and several Heads of State.

The Eritrean Ministry said, “The ruling Prosperity Party in Ethiopia has been waging a stubborn and unjustified intense poisonous campaign and aggressive actions over the past two years aimed at seizing Eritrean ports.”

The Eritrean government dismissed the accusations leveled by the Ethiopian government alleging that successive Ethiopian regimes remained in occupation of Ethiopian territories in violation of the decision by Ethiopia Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC).

Ethiopia and Eritrea normalized relations in 2018 after over two decades of no diplomatic relations. The two joined hands against Tigray regional forces in the recent Tigray war (November 2022-November 2022). However their bilateral relations deteriorated in September 2023 when Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed demanded sea access through Eritrea.
