Bail Granted to Taye Dendea, Former Ethiopian Minister

A court in the Ethiopian capital today granted bail to Taye Dendea, the former Ethiopian minister who was arrested in December last year.

Taye Dendea was arrested after he shared an explosive social media post lashing out at Abiy Ahmed, the Ethiopian Prime Minister. He was, back then, working as the deputy minister of peace. Originally from the Oromia region, he is known for criticizing ruling Prosperity Party leaders.

He was charged with conspiring with terrorist groups to overthrow the government. Weapons and flags of the Oromo Liberation Army, an armed group operating in Oromia, were allegedly recovered from his house.

A court in Addis Ababa today ordered the release of Taye Dendea on bail. Bail bond worth 20,000 birr will have to be submitted at the relevant court. Taye’s wife confirmed that the court had granted her husband bail.

Over two months ago, it was reported by myviewsonnews YouTube channel that Ethiopian government was in talks with Taye Dandea to release him and send him abroad.
