Since the start of this week, Tigray military has been dismantling district governments which back President Getachew Reda in his ongoing dispute with Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) Debretsion Gebremichael group.

On Saturday, fighting erupted in Mekoni town between Tigray military and a local armed militia affiliated with President Getachew Reda. On Thursday, President Getachew Reda fled Tigray after Tigray military and TPLF Debretsion faction pushed into Mekelle, the regional capital. He is in Addis Ababa now.

Yesterday Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael faction leaders in Addis Ababa. The TPLF faction asked the PM to appoint new interim president to replace Getachew Reda who was once a key TPLF leader.
