News: Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), on Saturday, denied rumors that it had proposed a new name to replace the current Tigray Interim President.
TPLF Debretsion Gebremichael group has removed Tigray interim president Getachew Reda from party and the Tigray interim administration after the worst internal party divisions. But Getachew Reda is refusing to step down. TPLF has been publicly calling for the removal of Getachew Reda and the appointment of new President.
This week, the party chairman Debretsion Gebremichael was invited by the federal government to hold talks about political conflict in Tigray. After the meeting between TPLF chairman and Federal government, some news sources reported that The TPLF Chairman had nominated a presidential candidate to replace Getachew Reda. Some sources claimed that Debretsion proposed himself to replace the current interim president. However the party has denied all these rumors.
“Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael discusseded the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the reshuffle of the leadership of the interim administration and other issues. Some issues to be resolved in the next meeting were identified. We would like to point out that the information that is being spread regarding the conversation is incorrect and does not reflect the reality. The information that the TPLF has nominated a presidential candidate is also not true,” the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) wing led by Debretsion Gebremichael said in the statement.
TPLF has split in two. One faction is led by chairman Debretsion Gebremichael. Tigray interim President Getachew Reda is leading the rival TPLF group.
