Kenya has closed its border with Somalia after a security incident. Mandera- Bulo Hawo border crossing was closed on Sunday. The border crossing was reopened at the the start of this year after months of closure due to the killing of bus passengers and quarry workers last year.
According to local sources, Kenyan Rapid Deployment Units (RDU) closed the border after Somali soldiers attacked a Kenyan border check post where a suspected Somali national was being interrogated by Kenyan authorities. In that attack, one member of Kenyan forces was killed.
Bilateral trade has been suspended due to the border closure. Long queues of vehicles are being seen on both sides of the border.
