Tigray Military Accuses Tigray Govt of Undermining Tigray’s Interests

Tigray military today issued a statement, lashing out at the Tigray Interim Administration led by President Getachew Reda. The statement has been issued amid ongoing hostility between two TPLF groups led by President Getachew Reda and TPLF Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael.

The statement is being seen as an announcement by Tigray military to remove President Getachew Reda from power. TPLF Debretsion group has been demanding the removing of Getachew Reda group from Tigray Interim Administration (TIRA).

Col Gebre, the military spokesperson, issued this statement. Military commanders, in attendance, raised their hands in support of the statement read by the spokesperson. The military accused the Tigray Interim Administration of undermining Tigray interest and failing to implement Pretoria Deal. Instead of solving issues like return of IDPs and restoration of Tigray’s territories, the TIRA embarked on implementing reforms agenda without having a clear roadmap, the military said.

Tigray military announced to withdraw its representatives in TIRA saying that it will appoint new representatives.

Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) Debretsion Gebremichael group also, on Wednesday, accused Getachew group of working against Tigray interests.

It seems that the military has decided to break the political deadlock between rival TPLF factions ongoing for several months. Getachew Reda group, backed by the Ethiopian Federal Government, seems to be in hot water.
