Tigray Govt & Former President Exchange Allegations

Tigray Interim Govt and former Tigray President Getachew Reda exchanged strong statements on Saturday.

Getachew Reda, who was removed from Tigray presidency over a month ago, has been accusing Tigray military officers of being involved in human trafficking, gold smuggling, robbing and stealing. In an interview over a week ago, he levelled serious allegations against Major General Migbe Haile, Major General HaileSelassie and Colonel Tewede.

Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau issued a statement last night, dismissing the allegations levelled by the former President. On Friday, Tigray Peace and Security Bureau issued a similar statement, calling Getachew Reda a “traitor.” Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) also blasted President Getachew Reda on Friday for criticism of Tigray military.

The former Tigray President Getachew Reda doubled down on his allegations against military commanders last night. He shared a social media post late on Saturday night alleging that current Tigray President General Tadesse Werede knew about the involvement of Tigray military commanders in human trafficking, but he ignored that.

Getachew Reda was a prominent TPLF leader. He served as Tigray interim president for two years until his removal in March this year. He developed differences with other senior TPLF leaders and Tigray military commanders who accuse of conspiring with the federal government against Tigray military and TPLF. He is now working as Advisor to Prime Minister on East Africa Affairs.

Tigray military and senior TPLF leadership, who are on one page, accuse federal government of exploiting Getachew Reda for spreading propaganda against Tigray military. Getachew Reda is expected to announce the formation of a new political party in coming days.
