Civil Aviation Authority of Somalia on Sunday dismissed rumors that the government was going to handover the Somali air space to a foreign entity.
“The Somali air is a national symbol, and it has made tremendous progress since it returned to the hands of the Somali government. The Somali Civil Aviation Agency is clarifying to the Somali people that it is impossible to control the air of the country with another hand and there is no plan that the government knows that can make this possible,” the Somali Civil Aviation Authority said.
Since yesterday rumors have been spread that the government of Somalia has signed an agreement with a foreign entity to handover its airspace to the latter. The rumors gained ground after former president Abdullahi Farmajo warned, through a social media post, that such a step would endanger national sovereignty.
The government of Somalia has reached an agreement with a UAE-based company called Cloud Air Navigation Services. According to the Somali Aviation Authority, the agreement has been signed to improve air traffic management, navigation and communication.
Several airlines have been complaining of facing communication disruptions over Somalia due to ongoing conflict between aviation authorities of Somalia and Somaliland.
