Over 20 Killed in Clashes on Ethiopia Kenya Border

Over 20 have been killed in clashes between residents of border areas on Ethiopia Kenya border. Kenyan Turkana country shares border with Ethiopian Dasanech district. Dasanech is situated in Southern Ethiopia region. Todonyang border crossing connects the two countries.

Ethiopian Dasanech residents freely cross the border to access Lake Turkana. Kenyan residents enter Ethiopian territories too, mostly in fishing seasons when Omo river is filled with the fish.

According to Kenyan sources, “heavily armed Dasanech militias from the Southern Ethiopian region invaded the area while the fishermen were working on Lake Turkana and killed over 20.”

The attack by Ethiopian Dasanech militia seems to be a revenge attack. Five Ethiopian Dasanech fishermen were killed on weekend by a notorious Kenyan bandit.

Situation in the area remains tense. Security forces and local elders are trying to deescalate the situation.
