More than 60 people have been killed in a clash between two clans in central Somalia. The incident happened in Galmudug regional state. The deadly fighting between the Dir and Marihan clans began on Saturday.
According to Abshir Abdi Shikhow, Galmudug’s minister of information, two clans fought over grazing land and water. The fighting happened close to Laandheer village in Galmudug. Sixty deaths have been confirmed so far. The injured have been transferred to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
Interestingly, the Minister of Information blamed Al Shabaab for this incident. Al Shabaab did not claim responsibility for the clash.
Ahmed Abdi Karie, president of Galmudug State, has appointed a five-member committee comprising senior officials from the ministries of interior, finance, religious affairs, and information to negotiate for peace between the fighting clans.
