IGAD Official Survives Assassination Attempt in Addis Ababa

An IGAD official survived an assassination attempt in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, this week. IGAD special envoy Dr. Guray Fidar was injured in this attack. IGAD is an 8-country bloc in Africa. It includes Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Uganda.

No statement has been issued by Addis Ababa police or IGAD so far. Dr. Guray Fidar is from the Somali region of Ethiopia. Mustafa Omar, Somali Regional President, is being accused of plotting this attack by some social media accounts.

Details about the assassination attempt are still sketchy while Guray Fidar remains hospitalized. Our efforts to reach the victim could not succeed.
