ICRC Ethiopia

Ethiopia: ICRC ( International Committee of Red Cross) is in talks with Amhara Fano groups reportedly. The talks are focusing mainly on the release of POWs in the custody of Fano fighters and delivery of aid to people in the Amhara region.

The ICRC, known for its neutral and impartial approach, is focused on ensuring the protection and assistance of individuals caught in the crossfire and combatants taken prisoner. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officials, on condition of anonymity, say they are holding confidential talks with parties involved in the ongoing conflict in the Amhara region, discussing potential prisoner exchanges and other humanitarian issues including delivery of aid across the Amhara region.

The Red Cross officials say that despite the security challenges faced by humanitarian organizations in the Amhara, ICRC has no plans of suspending aid delivery operations in the region.

The conflict between Amhara Fano militias and government forces began last year. Thousands have been killed and injured in this war like situation in the Amhara region of Ethiopia so far. Fano groups are in control of large areas. They frequently announce road and business closures.
