Eritrean Govt sent a special message to Sudanese military led government on Saturday. The message was sent in the wake of expulsion of Sudanese ambassador to Eritrea.
On Wednesday, Khalid Ababa, Sudanese chargés d’affaires to Asmara, was declared persona non grata by Eritrean government. No official reasons were announced by the Eritrean government for this decision. The diplomat was given 72 hours to leave Eritrea.
On Friday, Sudanese Foreign Ministry confirmed, in a press briefing, that the Eritrean government had expelled Sudanese diplomat, but the Sudanese government was seeking clarity from the Eritrean government.
According to some sources, Khalid Abbas hired two men to get information about activities at Sawa military training camp. Sawa military training center is situated in Gash Barka zone of Eritrea. Eritrea is reportedly training several Sudanese armed groups at Sawa training camp.
On Saturday, the Eritrean government sent four naval vessels to Port Sudan. The commander of the Eritrean naval fleet said that they had come to Port Sudan to share a message of support from Eritrean government for the Sudanese leadership.
It seems that Eritrean government does not want to cut off ties with the Sudanese government led by General Abdul Fattah al Burhan. It wants to inform the Sudanese government that the action taken on the chargés d’affaires is an individual act and it won’t effect Eritrean support for General Al Burhan.
Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki hosted General Al Burhan twice since the start of civil war in Sudan last year. Eritrean is generally seen as a support of Al Burhan government against the Rapid Support Forces. Al Burhan government so far took no retaliatory action on Eritrean diplomats in Sudan.
