Anti Eritrean government group

A delegation of an anti Eritrean government group visited Ethiopia recently. The revelation about this visit was made at a meeting of the group held this week in England.

Brigade Nhamedu UK chapter held its 4th congress this weekend in Birmingham. Brigade Nhamedu is an anti Eritrean government group. It is struggling for political and democratic change in Eritrea, a country where no election has been held since its independence in 1994. President Isaias Afwerki , who heads Eritrea’s only political party called People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), has been in power for the last 3 decades. Eritrean government accuses brigade nhamedu and other opposition groups of being backed and funded by the enemies of Eritrea.

Brigade Nhamedu UK chapter is split in two. One faction, which held its 4th party congress in Birmingham, elected new leadership. Habtom Mecheche, a brigade nhamedu leader, submitted a report at the party congress about his visit of Ethiopia. He led a delegation of brigade nhamedu activists to visit Ethiopia. The congress participants backed engagement with Ethiopia.

Eritrea Ethiopia relations are tense these days. Eritrea has banned Ethiopian airline from operating in Eritrea. Three Eritrean opposition groups, Brigade Nhamedu, Transition Government in Eritrea and Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization, held separate meetings in Ethiopia recently.
